Company/Business E & O Enterprise
Artist Statement Lolly's Works, Firmly Rooted in Connecting Craft and People seeks opportunity to instill in others an appreciation for the arts: a fabric-design marbler, potter and educator/ instructor. My creative resources come from naturally knowing and observing my surroundings. I embark on goals that help me become self-directed and persistent. I like the old adage, "practice makes perfect." I analyze the what's, how's and why's of tackling the task at hand and creatively pursue an answer. Fluidity is the science behind my motivation to create works of craft. The intuitive fluid process of layering color on color or clay on clay replicates nature's organic shapes and lines. Marbling inks react to create a surface tension which is capture in a one-of-a-kind, mono-type print on fabric. The same is true for slip/glaze application over clay. A motif pattern becomes the canvas for expression. The foundational colors create hidden imagery that lures the viewer to look a little closer at the object or the subject at hand. Hand-drawn, stitched embroidered threads enhance the marbled fabric and colored slip application over the stamped patterns enhance the clay surface. I find that stories embellish the fabric of our lives. I often listen to the quite of my inner self and reflect on stories that I have heard or hear over the radio as I am drive to and from instructional workshops or teaching engagements. Stories unite us, keep us connected and nourish us as we continue our life journey.
