|Fiber in one form or another has always been an integral part of my life. As a young child I watched my mother cut a twig from a tree and whittle a crochet hook . She would then crochet rugs from material in her scrap bag. She taught me to sew on an old treadle sewing machine. By the age of nine I had already made a small quilt by hand. I learned the value of all kinds of fabric as I reconstructed clothing from clothes given to my family. Needle felting opened up a whole new dimension in my love of fiber. I am intrigued by the entire process of wool collection, from the farmer who owns the sheep through the end process of roving, which has been handled by so many by the time I use it for felting. It is rewarding to know that I am a part of a sustainable craft that supports so many. Needle felting is my process of meditating. The colors and texture of the fibers connect me to the source of their creation. The rhythm of the needle moving through the fibers excite me as patterns emerge and form unfolds.|
