Artist Statement
I make art for the inner child. With acrylic on canvas, I create playful images inspired by drawings I made when I was a kid – like birds, umbrellas, and jelly bean trees. I often begin by building layers of brushstrokes and color, which then either grow into a fully abstract painting or a mostly representational piece. Many times my work is a combination of the two. Words and poetry are also integral to my process, allowing me to further explore the tension between the playful innocence of childhood and the vulnerable truths of a grown-up world that doesn’t always understand.
