To make art that can be worn and appreciated as the wearer goes about their day, their life, making them feel more beautiful, is a privilege I relish. Silk painting allows me to do that as I combine two of my favorite art media: fibers and painting. I've been a painter since high school many years ago; I began my silk journey a decade or so ago.
I enjoy using all the bright colors that are available and mixing them to create new ones. I also enjoy learning the many ways of applying color to silk and have been fortunate to be able to teach several of them. I am thrilled that some of the techniques I use in watercolors are applicable to silk painting. I take advantage of the freedom the medium of silk painting gives me to work tight and realistically or loose and abstractly as strikes my mood.
My faith in God, my maker and creator, inspires my work as a maker and creator of fine silk wearable art. All the textures and colors I see in nature spark my imagination as I work in my studio. By way of being a good steward of God's creation, more and more I have been using earth-friendly dyes and techniques in my work. Sola deo gloria.
