Artist Statement
The artist utilizes the lapidary techniques to create necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings. The process begins by selecting a rough stone, mineral, or fossil to be cut and shaped. The color and beauty are enhanced by running the piece through a series of grinding stages from coarse to very fine to polished. The result is a free-form cabochon. At this point, some cabochons are selected to be inlayed with a complimentary stone like Australian and Mexican opal. This gives the piece a three-dimensional effect. A pendant is created by placing the cabochon in handcrafted silver bezel. If a pendant is chosen to be made into a necklace, a bail is soldered on to the bezel so it can hang on complementary beads or silver chain. This process ultimately produces a beautiful one of a kind lapidary jewelry piece. The same technique is used to also create rings, bracelets, and earrings.
