Artist Statement
Chris Charles is a graduate of Montserrat College of Art, where she earned her BFA in painting. She is the proud owner of Moon Rabbit Press, which she established in 2010 after a serendipitous encounter with letterpress printing the year before. Having honed her skills in both painting and graphic design, printmaking was a natural creative progression.
A love for mid-century design deeply influences Chris's creative style, especially color and composition. She draws inspiration from the world around her, whether the beauty of nature or the intriguing forms of man-made objects. Although she relies heavily on traditional letterpress printing techniques, experimenting with materials & applications is an important part of her process. Chris likes to push the limits of her presses and play with unusual typesetting techniques, including the use of discarded metal type.
In addition to selling her work in galleries and art festivals across the country, Chris also teaches printmaking classes at the Flower City Arts Center in Rochester, NY, where she inspires and encourages the next generation of printmakers.
