Artist Statement
I have always been enamored of the beauty of wood. There is something satisfying about taking a piece of firewood and turning it into something beautiful. Most of my training and experience is self-taught. I began wood turning in 2013, when I attended an event to turn pens for the troops at a local woodworking store. One pen and I was hooked. I have taken one other formal class to learn the basics and joined a local woodturners club and the American Association of Woodturners where I have been exposed to a great wealth of skill and knowledge. Generally, I do not have plans when I choose a piece of wood to turn into art, I just let the wood speak and its form takes shape. I began making pens and have expanded my pens to many original designs and still love to create a special pen for customers. I turn bowls, small hollow forms, many useful kitchen and household items. I am continually learning and trying new things. My connection to other woodturners and clubs and organizations keeps me constantly inspired to create something new.
