Chapter East
Company/Business Silk & Tincture
Artist Statement
I hand dye silk ribbon to create lovely, ethereal and complex colors. Tinctura was the Latin word for dye, and since my dyes are often mixes of several different natural ingredients, I felt tincture was fitting to add to my business name. I love working with ancient dyes, like woad and cochineal for example, knowing their history and creating beautiful colors that our ancestors must have gazed upon as well. My spindles are also hand made by a TN craft member, and I source my dyes from a company here in TN as well. I also marble silk scarves and pocket squares, using the same process that has been used to marble paper for hundreds of years.
