Artist Statement
Nature has always calmed and centered me. When the world would become too much for me, I would sit quietly in a meadow or a forest, listening to the quiet, noticing the details of a leaf or flower, sketching the curve of vines and branches. My driving passion was to translate these ephemeral moments of nature’s calm beauty into tangible and enduring works of art that might sustain me when I could not be in nature. For years I attempted to capture this essence in different media: paint, ink, beads, and carving. My introduction to metal clays opened a whole new world of possibilities, allowing me to incorporate detailed, carved metalwork with my other media, and give me a solid hold on the natural world I so love. My desire now is to bring that calm and that beauty into my work and share it with others.
