Artist Statement
Our work in clay began in 2004 when Tracey gave Larry pottery lessons for an anniversary present. Larry attended the first round of classes by himself and Tracey started classes with him the next set. We have taken many workshops along the way to help us find what aspects of clay appeal to us. Larry enjoys making ?alternative-fired? pottery, which means we do not use a traditional electric kiln or gas kiln in the final firing of our work. Alternative firing includes raku, horsehair, saggar-fired (aluminum foil, clay pots, etc.). Tracey enjoys the functional side featuring serving platters, trays, dishes, teapots, state shapes, and other quirky things. We work together on all pieces through suggestions, cleanings, and firings. Our work is unique because the numerous uncontrollable variables involved in each process prevent us from being able to duplicate a pot. We can make pieces that are similar, but not identical. We love working in clay and making one-of-a-kind pieces.
