A love of making art and music came naturally to me as a child, together they helped to set the course for my future life’s work.
I attended the Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, California (1966-69). Intensive studies included: drawing, painting, typography and photography, with a major in graphic design.
A fortunate job opportunity was offered to me in 1978, I was hired as a full-time art director at Warner Bros. Records in Burbank, California, responsible for the creative direction and hands-on design of numerous record album cover projects and related print marketing materials. Then moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1985 and was recruited as in-house staff art director at MCA Records, Nashville, overseeing all album cover visual direction, packaging design and product printing.
1996 brought a pivotal career change, from nearly two decades of gainful employment in the corporate graphic arts world of the recording industry, to becoming a fully dedicated independent craft artist, working primarily in wood.
All pieces are uniquely one-of-a-kind. They are basically lathe-turned wood objects, in a variety of shapes, sizes and species, some have lids and/or complimentary support elements. Applied surface design techniques and materials include: freehand drawing, pyrography (wood burning), carving, engraving, along with various paints, pigments and inks. This process develops intuitively and patiently, until the desired overall appearance of balance, counter balance, rhythm and resolve is achieved.
