Artist Statement
My current primary art genre is mixed-media wood intarsia, requiring technical skills in carpentry and finishing. Utilizing various power saws (scroll, band, table, miter) and sanders (drum, mop, belt, oscillating) to cut and initially shape domestic and exotic woods, then power carve with a rotary tool, adhere to a background, and custom frame. Color and texture are achieved through the thoughtful selection of wood species/grain patterns enhanced with alcohol dyes, oxidization, pyrography, and/or painted highlights.
