Artist Statement
First and foremost I am a weaver. Weaving with silk, bamboo and cotton, most of my work can be described as functional fabric for clothing and accessories. Occasionally I stray into the world of wall art, weaving impressionistic landscapes or "reweaving" words or text to explore worldly or spiritual concepts. I operate my studio alone and execute every detail of the weaving personally.
Like many others before me, I view weaving as a metaphor for life - a sometimes simple, sometimes complex process that combines separate, individual strands to form a new and coherent whole. Life, too, is a beautiful fabric - made colorful and interesting by our diversity; made strong and whole by the interconnectedness of us all.
As a weaver and an artist my goal is to create that which machines cannot - to weave fabrics with spirit, soul, and sometimes (when I’m really lucky) even a glimpse of magic.
