Summer Study Scholarships

Tennessee Craft creates environments for life-changing connections to spark and grow, fostering supportive artist-to-artist relationships, building maker communities across the state, and preserving traditional craft methods by educating both our membership and the public on the people, processes and rich traditions of craft in Tennessee. We offer several fully paid summer workshop opportunities each year to help artists thrive. This year, we are pleased to offer ten (10) scholarships for study with our craft school partners.

Workshops available for funding may be taken at the Appalachian Center for Craft, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts or Shakerag Workshops from May to September – including tuition, materials and room. Scholarships are intended to provide educational advancement to craft artists wishing to improve their knowledge and skills in a craft medium of their choice.

The proceeds from our professional development workshop and a partnership with each school create a unique opportunity to fulfill Tennessee Craft’s mission to continue and create Tennessee’s fine craft traditions by encouraging and supporting interested craft artists on their next step.

Upon returning from the event for which funding was received, funded artists provide written reports detailing how this funding assisted their professional development and will further their careers as a craft artists, and they also give a presentation to their local Tennessee Craft chapter in a subsequent meeting, in which they demonstrate the newly learned technique, skill, knowledge, etc. for which funding was received. This requirement is in keeping with Tennessee Craft’s intent for artist members to help other members thrive.

Submissions open March 1, 2019. All applications must be submitted electronically no later than midnight CST on April 1, 2019.
