More than 20 years ago Anthony Martin started learning the basics of blacksmithing: working and molding hot metal with hammer and anvil. As he developed as a smith, his interest in Colonial American History took over. He says, “My love of history drove my work deeper into the research of 18th and 19th century American made pieces and the techniques used to create them. My research revealed a very high level of craftsmanship, skill, and creativity used by our ancestors.”
Anthony strives to recreate those early American craftsmen’s attributes in his blacksmith work. The smithed pieces and all of their elements are hand crafted at Red Tail Forge Works. He use many of the same materials and the same 300-year-old techniques to create useable, practical, and traditional art that can be passed down in the new owner’s family for many generations. Anthony’s goal is to create original pieces and recreate historical pieces while maintaining the art, practice, and history of the Colonial American blacksmith.
