Memphis
Lester Jones’ interest in art started in 1967 in junior high school. The desire to create, compete, and to challenge himself artistically continued throughout high school and into college. He enrolled into Memphis State University in 1972 where he was introduced to pottery and raku firing.
His first exhibit of raku art was held at the Memphis Flea Market in 1988, and he has since traveled and exhibited at many fine art festivals throughout the USA and received numerous awards and recognition. His use of clay and mixed media is considered unconventional within ceramic best practices, and his major body of work consist of women, men, and children with signature wire hair.
Lester says that he is “most proud of having the opportunity to work 38 years as a middle school art teacher. As a teacher, I hope I taught and encouraged 12,000 or more to follow their dreams and artistic path in life.”
