Artist Statement
As far back as I can remember I have always loved to create things. As a child I loved to draw and paint. College led me to photography and graphic arts and after college I discovered the art of Tole painting. Raising two girls, put my art on the back burner but I soon found myself creating beaded crosses and jewelry for friends and family. Making things for others led me to the founding of Swirls n Waves. I have since changed my name to Angela Morris Designs. My creations were made to remind people to spend time seeking God in the highs and lows of life and to remind them that they are not alone and that they are loved. My art is ever evolving, and I am now creating one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry made with various metals, beads and wire. I am inspired by God and His beautiful creations and by the sheer joy of watching something come together. I use sheets of aluminum, copper, brass, German silver, sterling silver, natural stones beads and wire. The combination of these things gives me endless opportunities. The sheets of metal are cut into shapes, heated, folded, textured and soldered. I love taking a plain sheet of metal and turning it into something unique. I especially love copper, the way it softens when heated and the colors you can create with a light flame. Natural stone, wood and glass beads are a work of art in themselves, and I love to include them in my designs. To create depth and interest to my pieces I use several coloring techniques. I attend Art shows in Alabama and nearby states. They are a wonderful way to meet people and make new friends. With my Etsy and my online store, I can share my artwork all over the country. I appreciate all the 5-star reviews I receive on Etsy and the honorable mention awards I have received at art shows. I live and work at my house in the woods in Vestavia Hills Alabama.
