Artist Statement
Have you ever really thought about an egg? It is such a remarkable thing of beauty. Eggs support life by allowing creatures to live and grow inside them and, even when there is no life inside, they feed us with a variety of delicious dishes. What a privilege it feels like to be able to make art from these wondrous orbs. Then, on top of my canvas being an egg, I get to make my art using an ancient Ukrainian art called Pysanky Writing. This art was invented by Ukrainians thousands of years ago and is, in fact, one of the oldest documented arts still in existence. It is a beautiful art and I, again, feel privileged to do it. Then, thirdly, it is my pleasure to update this ancient art by making the egg shells into jewelry. This enables me to travel around telling people about the wonders of eggs, Pysanky Writing, and to modernize the ancient art. I LOVE what I do. It feels magical to me and I REALLY LOVE sharing it with y'all!
