Artist Statement
Clay is the perfect medium to embody the things most important to my life. As an avid hiker and traveler, my view of the world is shaped by the rocks, trees, waters, and landscapes surrounding my favorite places and I try to convey that beauty through the functional pottery I can create with a ball of earth. I find inspiration in the misty mountains, with their vibrant wildflowers, surrounding me in East Tennessee, in the sandy beaches of the Outer Banks, ringed by the deep green-blue water that laps against them, and in the home I share with my family.
Making pottery allows all those loves to come together into one functional work of art and I hope that every time a mug is used for morning coffee, a bowl of pasta is placed on a dinner table, or a bouquet is arranged in a vase, the joy and beauty of my world is reflected in the pot.
