Artist Statement
Frederique was born and grew up in a suburb of Paris, France and obtained her Ph.D. in Biology at the Pierre-and-Marie-Curie University (Paris VI). She moved to Memphis in January of 1994 and has been working at St Jude Children's Research Hospital, initially as a postdoctoral fellow, and now as a Scientist. Frederique enjoyed art and drawing from an early age. Her painting skills improved greatly after meeting Sally Markell and Katie Lee, both talented watercolor painters. She learned and have practiced the technique of adding primary colors directly to the paper, then allowing them to mix after application. Her sketch style of landscapes reflects her admiration for the clouds, as well as the trees and their different appearances through the seasons. In addition to being a painter, she is also a photographer, knitter and a dancer.
