I am a printmaker and drawer creating hand printed fabric items for everyday use. These distinctive textiles begin as my originally designed and carved blocks or screen prints.
Block printing starts as a carving process. I honor the hand carving technique by leaving areas of the block partially carved creating a quality of style unique to my work.
I approach screen printing in numerous ways, from tightly controlled repeat pattern registration to free form screening.
Detail drawing and painting allow me to further create detail and texture.
I periodically question myself, “Why make products that are to be deliberately handled, meant for use in the kitchen, garden or around the house?” I always come back to the core of my work: I want to move past the fear of using something I create; I want the richness of texture, pattern, and colorful products around me daily.
For my customers: using my handmade items becomes the greatest complement you can give to my creations; to know you bought my work because you loved the design and used the items in your daily life keeps me working happily in the studio!
