Artist Statement
I am John D. Schneider, a guy who started woodworking in 1951. My motto is "Making useful things that might look OKAY!" I have made a variety of things, including houses! Currently, I've concentrated on making tools for the fiber arts and various types of household items. Most of the things I make are based on samples people provide me, sketches I make up, or just "experimenting." The woods I use are chosen for their color, workability, and toughness. No stains are used in the finishing. Finish is usually either polyurethane varnish or Tung oil and wax. Woodworking provides me with a relaxing way to create things that people might like.
