Artist Statement
Jyl is the mother of two and the proud grandmother of 6, living in Knoxville, TN with her husband Mark. Born in Pennsylvania, raised in Ohio and Michigan, Jyl continued her journey in the U. S. Marine Corps after graduating High School in 1973. She was trained in the administrative field and continued working in that field after she landed in Knoxville, TN for many years. After marriage and 2 children, she began her journey into the creative world, working in her in-laws floral shop. Thriving on the lessons of color and design, she found her love of design taking a new direction with beading. Over the last 18 years, her journey has been an exploration of design possibilities, naturally moving into metal smithing, desiring to create elegant individual pieces of art. 99% self taught, her subject matter is always her love of nature and it's vast beauty. In the last year, color, using Titanium, has been her focus, as well as work in the absence of color through processes such as Depletion Gilding. You will find touches of the ancient process of 14K Keum Boo, and Water Casting. Her creations are always fresh, light and incorporate movement. Never one to follow the crowd, she manipulates metals in a simple, elegant way to bring you, the wearer a completely original piece of artwork to wear. You can check out recent designs at www.JylWalker.com
