Artist Statement
As a creator and maker my passions include designing, couture sewing, knitting, creating handmade journals, making knitting/crocheting jewelry and small pieces of jewelry. I love working with textiles/fiber, mixed media and playing with color. I love exploring new mediums and look forward to spending time learning the slow crafts of spinning and weaving. I started sewing and working with fabrics at a young age making my own clothes. I studied Apparel Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and received my Haute Couture certificate while attending classes. My vision is to create beautifully handmade and useful one of a kind pieces to be enjoyed. I believe it is important to use natural fibers and natural dyes, locally sourced whenever possible and made in the USA. I am currently working on private commissions for Mistletoe Farm in Franklin, TN and private clients. My wearable art pieces, journals and small collection of jewelry can be found and purchased on my website (www.cestlea.com). I turn the ordinary into the extraordinary!
