Description of Work A current sculpture series involves burning paper (Pyrography) to showcase fire, ashes, and holes. The paper, which is fragile yet strong, semipermeable, lightweight, delicate and airy is affected by light and movement in the space.

An artist, educator, storyteller, collector and sometime writer, Mary K. VanGieson received her BAE from Oklahoma State University and her MFA from the University of Memphis. Her work encompasses drawing, encaustic painting, book arts and alternative media sculpture and has been exhibited throughout the United States. She lives and works in Memphis, TN.
