Artist Statement
I melt glass rods directly over an extremely hot gas fed flame that ranges
from 2,000-3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Each piece is hand-shaped
one at a time using gravity, a few tools and a sense of timing. This
centuries old art form is called "lampworking" because artists once
melted glass over an oil lamp. They often required the help of an
assistant who would bellow the flame as needed. Today's artists,
such as I, can work alone because of modern technology.
All my work is properly kiln annealed for strength and longevity.
Artistic Achievements:
• Art Reach on the Road Instructor for Arrowmont School 2019-present
• People’s Choice Award: Knoxville Dogwood Arts, 2019
• Tennessee Home for the Holidays: made 3 glass ornaments for use at the TN Residence (governor's mansion) for this event. (2015)
• Dollywood: Guest Artist each October (2011---present)
• National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Washington DC-
made 26 glass ornaments for this event (2010)
• Tennessee Cross Roads (PBS) & You Tube
• Tennessee Home & Farm-in print and on You Tube
• Various Publications that have featured my work: Flow Magazine; Glassline Magazine; Blush; Step by Step Wire; Nashville Arts; Natural Awakenings
• Art affiliations: Tennessee Craft (formerly TACA); Foothills Guild (TN)
• Creator of the first 4 Bridges Art Festival Patron Pins
• Individual Arts Grant: to learn to blow glass in Ireland (2007)
• Bill Holmberg Art Leadership Institute, graduate
