Getting to Know Our Jurors: Carr McCuiston

With the 43rd Annual Tennessee Craft Fair just around the corner, the Nashville craft scene is buzzing. Artists, volunteers, jurors and fair goers alike not only add to the excitement, but also help immensely with the fair’s success. Today we shine the spotlight on our guest juror, Carr McCuiston. Carr will be using her immense experience to look at artists’ work through a fresh lens as she selects merit and best of show awards.

Though this will be Carr’s first year as a juror at the Tennessee Craft Fair, her jury and craft experience prove she’s a veteran in the field. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Auburn University, Carr achieved a Master’s Degree in Art Education at Georgia State University. After her academic success, Carr went on to jury many national craft shows, and served on the artist selection panel for the American Craft Council. Among her recent achievements, Carr was honored by the ACC as a Style Maker in 2013.

Between serving as a juror at numerous events, working as an Art Director and at various design and fundraising firms, Carr has also spent a majority of her time as Director/Owner of The Signature Shop & Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 1997, Carr has owned and operated the shop and spent nearly 20 years working closely with the founder of the gallery. The gallery, founded in 1962, has successfully kept up with the current changes in American craft. While still maintaining a strong focus on art that pushes the boundaries between sculpture and function, The Signature Shop & Gallery blurs the line between craft and fine art. By representing both established, as well as newly emerging artists in contemporary American craft, the shop has developed a wide range of media that showcases the gallery’s values.

Tennessee Craft is honored to host as renowned of an artist as Carr McCuiston.

We look forward to seeing you at the 43rd Annual Tennessee Craft Fair on May 2-4 in Centennial Park!
