Every year, the Tennessee Association of Woodturners hosts their Woodturning Symposium; this year’s was held in January and featured four nationally known woodturners as demonstrators, as well as had one of the largest regional instant galleries in the United States. The TAW has now presented 26 regional woodturning symposiums.

This year’s demonstrators were Barbara Dill, Trent Bosch, Doug Fisher, and Kurt Hurtzog. These creative artists did a wonderful job of showing their skills and inspiring the 350 people from 22 states who attended the event. At the symposium, attendees found great wood and great tools; all the things necessary for a woodturner to create amazing pieces of work.
Each year, a People’s Choice Winner is awarded for their outstanding work. This year’s winner was Tim Rinehart, who won with his natural edge bowl.
The Tennessee Association of Woodturners is a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners whose members range in skill level from novice to professional. Their goal is to “provide an environment that fosters the art and craft of woodturning. Our members share techniques on turning wood, finishing wood, safe woodworking practices, proper tool and equipment use. We strive to increase awareness and appreciation of design for wood turned objects having functional or artistic objectives.”
The TAW will be demonstrating at the Tennessee Craft Fair that takes place May 2-4, so make sure to come out to Centennial Park and see them!
