Artist Statement
I consider the body of my creative work to be free-spirited, a little boho, a little beachy, occasionally non-traditional and even a little eccentric at times. I am self-taught, having received no formal education thus far in jewelry making. I like to play/experiment with many different techniques, designs, and components in my jewelry making leading to the unusual variety of my designs and styles. I draw from all the unexpected, unusual, interesting, varied and broad detours, twists, and turns of my life’s journey.
Most often I use the cold connection techniques of wire wrapping, along with methods traditionally associated with the fiber arts. I make wearable art with a range of metals, pearls, gemstones, shells, crystals, fibers, items I can repurpose, manmade or organic, found items. I have started using inks, dyes and paint more recently. Metals include aluminum, stainless, silver plate, copper, brass, silver filled, sterling silver and gold filled.
I consider myself a professional jewelry artist and a hobbyist painter. Ironically, my backgrounds in these areas are unexpected and contrary. Although I have learned to make jewelry on my own in my most recent years, and it is my income, I have drawn and painted all my life, received formal education over the tears, despite being a hobbyist. My painting is largely watercolor and traditional in comparison to my jewelry making, and gives me no income.
