Tennessee Craft – Southwest
Tennessee Craft—Southwest (formerly MACA) covers Fayette, Lauderdale, Shelby and Tipton counties and is open to everyone interested in fine craft from the beginner to the most accomplished. Artists, students, gallery owners, schools, guilds, co-ops and appreciators are welcome to join. This active chapter is committed to promoting local craft. Shoppers and collectors find our work at craft fairs, trunk shows, art galleries and museums. Member meetings with guest speakers and various outings help individuals succeed and find support in our region.

Tennessee Fine Craft Showcase at WKNO, July 3-28, 2023
Reception: July 9, 2-4pm
It’s time to put your best foot forward, and show Memphis how truly amazing the members of Tennesseee Craft Southwest are! This is a members-only juried show, and a panel of judges from the Memphis art community will award prizes for Best of Show ($300), First ($200), Second ($100) and Third ($50). Because this show has no restrictions or theme, you can submit any type of quality work. We hope this will encourage a very high level or participation so our pieces will fill this beautiful, large gallery space! APPLICATION & INFORMATION HERE.

Tennessee Craft Week Show: Celebrating Memphis
October 6-13, 2023
Plans are in the works for our SW Tennessee Craft Week show…Celebrating Memphis. This will be a juried art exhibit held at the Woman’s Exchange gallery October 6-13, 2023. It’s never too early to start thinking about your art for this event, and let us know if you’d like to be part of the planning committee for this exciting show.

Tennessee Craft Southwest Member Show & Tell meeting was delayed until March 10 due to an ice storm and power outages. Felicitas Sloves gave a very interesting presentation on the tapestry skills she learned with her 2021 Tennessee Craft Scholarship. Discussed upcoming activities and shows with attending members.
April 1-28, 2022 Collaborations Show
Tennessee Craft—Southwest is the local chapter of a statewide organization of fine craft artists and arts supporters. Our annual Collaborations exhibition encourages and celebrates variety and partnership among our members. Artists of different media work together to create joint artworks that push the boundaries and creativity of each other’s art.

April 29 – May 1 Art in the Loop 2022
Tennessee Craft—Southwest had a group booth at this extraordinary 3-day show. Members are encouraged to participate, not only to show off their work, but more importantly to promote Tennessee Craft. Participants in our Tennessee Craft booth can display/sell up to 6 pieces (12 if demonstrating), and must work at least two shifts—one each for Tennessee Craft—Southwest and for Art in the Loop.
May 17, 2022 Handcrafted for the Hungry
Mary Bartholomew and Rose Conway held a painting event at the Woman’s Exchange for WE members. Each of the members purchased 1-2 bisque bowls and painted with their own designs.
Tennessee Fine Craft Showcase at WKNO, Online July 2022
This year’s show was exclusively online, as the WKNO Gallery Ten Ninety-One was not yet open to the public. The show participants truly outdid themselves as they worked within the show parameters of a butterfly theme. Congratulations to award winners, Pat Chaffee-Mosaic Butterfly, Rick Cannon-Emerging from Mahogany (3), and Catherine Stevens-Mega Magnificent Monarch.
Handcrafted for the Hungry Sale 2022
An extremely HUGE shout-out to our membership for their participation in this year’s Handcrafted for the Hungry funraiser! We made 120 bowls, which were on display and FOR SALE at the Woman’s Exchange through August 5th. Proceeds benefit the Mid-South Food Bank. The Woman’s Exchange is located at 88 Racine St.
Tennessee Craft–Southwest Member Meeting
August 18, 2022, 6:00-8:00 PM, Crosstown Concourse
Jennifer Sargent, a master artist for the 2021-2022 Master Artist Apprentice Program (MAAP), shared her experiences with the program, along with her apprentice, M. Kelly, joining us from Nashville via Zoom. We also 1) reviewed the results of the recent Tennessee Craft–Southwest survey that went out a few weeks ago, 2) discussed Tennessee Craft Week and our show ‘Second Chances,’ 3) had bowls from the Handcrafted for the Hungry fundraiser available for sale, and 4) enjoyed a show-and-tell!
Second Chances: An Extraordinary Exhibit of Upcycled Art
October 3-14, 2022, The Woman’s Exchange
This gallery exhibit featuring upcycled pieces of art should truly be included on your must-see list. Our fellow members certainly stepped out of their comfort zones, and got super-imaginative in creating pieces within the show theme.
The artist reception for Second Chances is Thursday, Oct. 6, 2:00-3:00 PM at the Woman’s Exchange, 88 Racine St.
Member Holiday Party
December 8, 2022, Crosstown Concourse
Dust off your festive holiday attire, and join us for camaraderie, fun, food, prizes and more! This year’s event will be catered by 3 Women and a Truck, and we are asking members to dig out their favorite holiday cookie recipe and bring a dozen to share for dessert. If you’d like to participate in our “dirty santa” exchange of handcrafted gifts, please bring a wrapped gift ($30-ish). This is an awesome opportunity to share your art with a fellow artist! There will be a door prize for best holiday attire and a $50 membership prize drawing (must be present to win)! Please RSVP for the food order, plus ones are welcome–please indicate if you’re bringing a guest in your RSVP.

Fellow member (and Chapter Rep), Patricia Schwarz, will be offering a tour of her new studio space at The Medicine Factory, 85 W. Virginia Ave, Memphis. After the tour, we plan to meet up at Laughlin Yard where lunch will be available for purchase.
