Tennessee Craft – Southwest

Tennessee Craft – Southwest (formerly MACA) covers Fayette, Lauderdale, Shelby and Tipton counties and is open to everyone interested in fine craft from the beginner to the most accomplished. Artists, students, gallery owners, schools, guilds, co-ops and appreciators are welcome to join. This active chapter is committed to promoting local craft. Shoppers and collectors find our work at craft fairs, trunk shows, art galleries and museums. Member meetings with guest speakers and various outings help individuals succeed and find support in our region.

Topic: Tennessee Craft – Southwest Board meeting will be held to work out details for upcoming events/meetings.

Tennessee Craft – Southwest Holiday Party
Date: December 12, 2019
Time: 6:00 – 9:00 PM
Location: Katie Dann’s Home
This will be a potluck celebration of the season.  We will also have a brief meeting to vote on our 2020 Chapter Board and discuss member meeting/workshop topics for 2020. Bring along your favorite dish to share with all and wear a nametag that you have created in your medium. We will be having an “Artsy Elf” gift exchange… bring along a wrapped gift THAT YOU HAVE MADE and is representative of your work ($30 value). How wonderful it will be to take home a piece from one of your fellow artists!!!

January Member Meeting
Date: January 28, 2020
Time: 6:00-8:00pm
Location: Pyro’s Pizza meeting room, 2035 Union Ave
Sharron Barrett and Nancy LaPlace will share their experiences from the classes they took with their Summer Study Scholarships. We’ll also have a quick “show-and-tell”, so bring along a piece of your work. Come a few minutes early and purchase pizza and/or salad to enjoy during the meeting!

Spring Member Meeting
Date: March 3, 2020
Time: 1:00-3:00pm
Our “Show and Tell” meetings have been widely popular, so we’re planning to do it again! In addition, Rick Cannon and Mary Bartholomew will briefly share their scholarship experiences from 2019. We’ll discuss the final details of the upcoming Collaborations show and Angela Schneider will be on hand to help with the application process if needed. The meeting will be at the home of Mary Bartholomew in Davies Plantation.

Collaborations Exhibition
Date: April 2020
The 2020 Collaborations show will be throughout the month of April at the Memphis Jewish Community Center. Members pair up with artists of another medium, put their creative minds together, and come up with some incredibly amazing pieces! It’s never too early to start thinking about and planning your creative collaboration! WKNO Fine Craft Showcase
Date: July 2020
Last year’s event was a huge success with 25 Tennessee Craft SW artists participating! 2020 is going to be even better!!! The theme for the 2020 Fine Craft Showcase is “The Elements: Earth, Air, Fire & Water.” Let your creative planning begin! Watch for further details.

Tennessee Craft-Southwest and Belltower Artisans Fight Hunger
Date: Tuesday, October 8, 2019
Location: Belltower Artisans, 549 S Highland, Memphis (see map)

Tennessee Craft- Southwest in partnership with Memphis’ Belltower Artisans hosted a makers’ event in support of the Memphis Empty Bowls Project.

The event was a creative group gathering of 9 members and 2 non-members focused on producing soup bowls to be donated to the upcoming Empty Bowls charity event. Proceeds from #theemptybowl project are used to fight hunger throughout the Mid-South.

This #TNCraftWeek2019 event was presented in partnership with Tennessee Vacation #madeintn as part of American Craft Week.

 

Tennessee Craft – Southwest Member Workshop
Date: August 26, 2019

Location: Pyro’s Pizza meeting room
“Selling Online” workshop featuring a panel of members with successful online businesses. In addition to the panel, 13 members and 1 non-member attended.

 

Weave a Scarf in a Day!
Location: Angela Schneider’s Studio, Bartlett, TN
Susan Chrietzberg, Nancy Laplace & Rose Conway joined Angela for her “Scarf in a Day” workshop.

 

Collaborations 2019
Dates: May 3 – May 31
Location: Memphis Jewish Community Center; 6560 Poplar Ave.
A month-long show featured the collaborative art of Tennessee Craft members. Two or more artists of different mediums worked together to produce incredible multi-media art pieces.
