About the Chapter
Tennessee Craft – Northeast serves a variety of artists in the Tri-Cities area. This chapter plans and implements innovative events allowing its members to show their work to members of the community and collectors. From networking events with galleries and retailers to window displays in downtown locations to booths at the National Storytelling Festival, each chapter event is designed to raise the profile of the talented artist living in northeast Tennessee.
Meetings are held throughout the year and feature rich content to help members grow their fine craft businesses. This chapter welcomes artists from the following counties to participate in meetings and events: Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington.

Chapter Picnic

It’s that time of year again, I hope everyone is excited for the TN Craft NE Chapter’s annual Summer Potluck Picnic. Members will meet at the Strawberry Fields Clubhouse on Tuesday, June 24th starting 6:00 pm. Everyone is asked to contribute to the meal and bring your latest artwork for a big group Show-and-Tell on the patio! Guests are welcome!!

Public Art Fundraiser
Date: August 1, 5:55-8pm
Location: Strawberry Fields Clubhouse
Johnson City Public Arts Fundraiser – ’65 by 5’ Northeast Chapter members will participate to make two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, measuring either 5-inches-by-5 inches or 5-inches-by-5-inches-by-5-inches. Each piece will be sold for $25. more info to come.

2025 Best in Craft Awards
This year’s recipients of the “Best in Craft” awards, selected by the Northeast Chapter from the annual Student Honor Art Show at East Tennessee State University, have been selected. In addition to their monetary awards, the Northeast Chapter has generously awarded each artist a Tennessee Craft membership for 2025.

Please invite a friend and come out to see the Fischman Gallery. It is a beautiful place to meet. We will be talking about the history of art in Tennessee as well as extending the arts into public schools in underserved areas. Exciting news, Northeast Chapter won the most renewals by the end of the year and we hope to win the next renewal/new member deadline of Feb 28th. If you have not yet renewed please do so before the 28th.
Holiday Dinner and Gift Exchange

We look forward to celebrating the season and kicking off 2023 together on January 17th with our annual holiday dinner and (optional) gift exchange! You and your “plus one” are invited to join us starting at 6:00 pm in the private dining room at Bella Vita in Johnson City. Everyone will be responsible for covering the cost of their meal and gratuity (you can preview their dinner menu HERE). If you wish to participate in the gift exchange, please bring a wrapped handmade gift (the cost of materials not to exceed $20). For the purpose of planning seating arrangements, we ask that you please RSVP by clicking HERE by Friday, January 13th.
Holiday Pop-Up Market
Date: Saturday, November 26
Location: Atelier 133, 133 N Commerce St, Johnson City
Members of the Northeast Chapter are invited to participate in a joint Holiday Pop-Up Market together with resident studio artists from Atelier 133 in downtown Johnson City from 10am-4pm on Saturday, November 26th, in the Fischman Gallery. Like last year, this will be run as a group sales event with a single point-of-sale. Individual artists will be responsible for their own display, inventory, and pricing. The Chapter will handle check-out and packaging. 5% of gross sales will be withheld by the Chapter to cover the cost of packaging and credit card fees. Another 15% will go to Atelier 133. If you are interested in participating, please download, complete and return the application form (available HERE) along with the $10 application fee (check, please) to: Louise Nuttle.
Please submit your application by NOVEMBER 15TH. Inventory lists will be due by Sunday, the 20th.

National Storytelling Festival
The National Storytelling Festival is an annual event dating back to 1973. This year marks the festival’s 50th year. The festival draws thousands of people to the historic town of Jonesborough, TN every October. The Northeast Chapter of Tennessee Craft will be set up in the Jonesborough Visitors Center, just off Main St., where they will be showcasing and selling local fine craft.

The work of members of Tennessee Craft–Northeast was showcased during the month of August in an exhibition in the Fischman Gallery at Atelier133 in Johnson City. Each member was invited to submit up to 5 recent (not previously exhibited) original works of craft art. An Opening Reception was held during Johnson City’s “First Friday” events on Friday, August 5th. The Chapter’s August Members Meeting was held in the Fischman Gallery on Tuesday, August 23rd.

We had a meeting (while practicing social distancing and wearing face masks) to learn more about Nancy Fischman’s Studio (Atelier 133) in downtown Johnson City. Although the facility is not quite finished, Nancy provided our program by giving us a tour of the facility and explaining how it will operate. She also gave some updates on Johnson City Public Art and how activities are being impacted by COVID-19. Nancy will have a gallery–Fischman’s Art Gallery and a Cafe’–Lazy Lady Bakery Company.

We are postponing our annual picnic meeting to July. However, we did have a June meeting at Washington College Academy. We canceled the April meeting that we had scheduled for there…so…this was a perfect opportunity to make up that meeting and program. The staff at Washington College Academy provided the program. There was a blacksmith demonstration and information provided about the Academy and its mission. They provided information to us about applying to be an instructor on their campus.
